Referral Reward

Author: Rijoy Team
Published: 2026/01/12

Feature Description

The "Referral Invitation Reward" is a core function in the membership system to incentivize users to acquire new customers. Each consumer will receive a unique invitation link. After inviting new users to complete registration and place their first order, both the referrer and the invitee will receive corresponding rewards, helping the store expand its user base.

Core Rule Features:

  • Only 1 referral rule can be applied to each VIP tier, and tier-specific rules take precedence over global rules.
  • Rule status is divided into "Active" and "Disabled", with the default status being Disabled.
  • A global referral rule (Rule Name: All-Tier Referral Rule, applicable to all tiers) will be preset after App installation, which merchants can customize and modify.
  • Tier-specific rules in Disabled status will not take effect, and the global rule will be automatically applied instead.

With this function, you can incentivize consumers to:

  • Proactively invite friends to register and place orders, bringing new traffic to the store.
  • Upgrade their own membership tiers to obtain more exclusive benefits.
  • Enhance their stickiness and sense of identity with the store, promoting long-term repurchases.

Effective Logic Description

  • The referrer shares a unique invitation link, and the new user binds the referral relationship after registering via the link.
  • When the new user completes registration or places their first order, the system automatically issues corresponding rewards in accordance with the configured rules.
  • If both an active tier-specific rule and a global rule exist for a tier, the tier-specific rule will be triggered first.
  • The new user must complete their first order within the specified valid period after registration for the referrer to receive the order reward.
  • If the new user returns their first order, the issued point rewards can be recovered in accordance with the configuration.

Operation Paths

Method 1: Create via AI Sidekick (Loyalty AI)

AI creates recommendation rules

  1. Click on Loyalty AI in the bottom right corner of any App page to bring up the AI dialog box.
  2. Enter an instruction in the input box, for example:

"Please create a recommendation rule specifically for the Bronze level."

  3. AI will automatically understand the requirements and generate the corresponding referral rule based on the current store tier information.
  4. Click the Preview & Edit button.
  5. The system will automatically jump to and populate the Referral Rule (Invitation Rule Settings) configuration page.
  6. Merchants can further adjust the configuration on the page and click Save to save the rule after confirming it is correct.

Method 2: Manual Creation (Manual)

Manually create recommendation rules

  1. After entering the App, click on the left menu Referrals.
  2. Enter the "Referrals" page.
  3. Click the Add Referral Rule button in the "Referral Rewards" module.
  4. Enter the referral rule creation page and save it after completing the configuration.

Configuration Item Description

1. Rule Name

  • Displayed on the Membership Points Panel and Loyalty Landing Page.
  • Input Restriction: The name must be unique and cannot be duplicated with other rules.
  • It is recommended to use clear and easy-to-understand wording, for example:
    • Bronze Member Referral Program
    • All-Tier Referral Rule

2. Applicable Tier

  • Selection Type: Single selection.
  • Option Description: Click the drop-down box to display all optional tiers (including the "All Tier" global option).
  • Restriction Rule: Tiers for which referral rules have already been created will not be displayed repeatedly in the drop-down box, ensuring that each tier corresponds to only one rule.

3. Referrer Registration Reward

  • Trigger Condition: The reward that the referrer (referred to as A) can obtain after the invitee (referred to as B) successfully completes registration.
  • Selection Type: Single selection (3 options).
    • No Reward: No registration-related rewards are issued; only order rewards are issued after the new user places an order.
    • Point Reward: Only positive integers (e.g., 100, 200, 500) are supported for input, which are directly credited to the referrer's point account.
    • Coupon Reward: Select one from percentage discount, fixed amount discount, and free shipping discount. Only one coupon can be created, and the coupon code is automatically generated and issued to the referrer.
  • Configuration Purpose: Lower the participation threshold for referrers (A). Even if the new user does not place an order for the time being, the referrer (A) can still obtain basic rewards to improve invitation enthusiasm.

4. Referrer Order Reward

  • Trigger Condition: The reward that the referrer (A) can obtain after the invitee (B) completes their first order.
  • Selection Type: Single selection (2 options).
    • Point Reward: Only positive integers (e.g., 100, 200, 500) are supported for input, and points can be used to redeem various types of coupons.
    • Coupon Reward: Select one from percentage discount, fixed amount discount, and free shipping discount. Only one coupon can be created to help the referrer (A) make repurchases.
  • Configuration Purpose: Incentivize referrers (A) to invite high-quality new customers (with actual purchase needs), and attract referrers (A) to make purchases again through rewards.

5. Invitee Reward Settings

  • Trigger Condition: The reward that the invitee (B) can directly obtain after completing registration.
  • Reward Type: Only coupon rewards (select one from 3 options, only one coupon can be created).
    • Percentage Discount: Deduction is made in proportion to the order amount to attract new customers to increase their order amount.
    • Fixed Amount Discount: Fixed denomination deduction to lower the decision-making threshold for new customers' first order.
    • Free Shipping Discount: Waive shipping costs to improve the conversion rate of new customers' orders.
  • Configuration Purpose: Lower the threshold for new customers' first attempt, improve the conversion efficiency of referral links, and make it more likely for invitees (B) to complete registration and place orders.

6. Daily Invitation Registration Limit

  • Function Positioning: Control the maximum number of new user registrations invited by the referrer (A) in a single day, with the core purpose of preventing malicious reward fraud.
  • Selection Type: Single selection (2 options).
    • No Limit: No upper limit on the number of people, suitable for stores with strong new customer acquisition needs and trust in their membership groups.
    • Limited: Only positive integers (e.g., 10, 15, 20, unit: persons) are supported for input. Beyond the upper limit, the referrer (A) will no longer receive registration rewards for new users invited to register on the same day.
  • Configuration Reason: Avoid some users from obtaining rewards by bulk registering fake accounts and making malicious invitations, which leads to the loss of control of the store's marketing costs, and at the same time ensure the authenticity and fairness of rewards.

7. Valid Days for Order Reward

  • Function Positioning: Set the valid period for the invitee (B) to complete their first order after registration, with the core purpose of improving the timeliness of new customer conversion.
  • Selection Type: Single selection (2 options).
    • No Limit: No time limit. The referrer (A) can obtain the order reward whenever the new customer completes their first order.
    • Limited: Only positive integers (e.g., 60, 90, 180, unit: days) are supported for input. The referrer (A) can only obtain the order reward if the new customer completes their first order within this period after registration.
  • Configuration Reason: Avoid the delay in the issuance of rewards to referrers (A) caused by new customers who register but do not consume for a long time. At the same time, incentivize referrers (A) to actively follow up with new customers, and also urge new customers to complete their first purchase in a short period of time to improve the efficiency of new customer activation.

8. Issuance Timing

  • Function Positioning: Set the issuance time of the referrer's (A) order reward, with the core purpose of balancing store capital security and user experience.
  • Selection Type: Single selection (3 options).
    • Issued Immediately After Order Payment: Rewards are credited immediately after the new customer completes payment, providing the best user experience and quickly improving the enthusiasm of referrers (A).
    • Issued N Days After Order Payment: After selection, enter a positive integer number of days (e.g., 10, 20, 30) to reserve a return buffer period and reduce the store's cost risk.
    • Issued N Days After Order Completion: After selection, enter a positive integer number of days (e.g., 10, 20, 30) to issue the reward after the order is shipped/confirmed as received, further ensuring the rationality of reward issuance.
  • Configuration Reason: Different stores have different order fulfillment cycles and return rates. Flexibly setting the issuance timing can avoid reward losses caused by new customer returns, and at the same time take into account the referrer's (A) sense of reward acquisition, balancing risks and experience.

9. Return Handling

  • Function Positioning: Set the reward handling method when the invitee (B) returns their first order, with the core purpose of protecting the store's interests and avoiding invalid reward expenditures.
  • Configuration Method: Checkbox (takes effect when checked).
  • Rule Description: Only valid for point rewards. When checked, if the invitee (B) returns their first order, the system will automatically recover the order point rewards that have been issued to the referrer (A); if not checked, the rewards will not be recovered by default.
  • Configuration Reason: The return of a new customer's order means that the store has not achieved actual revenue. If the referrer's (A) reward is still retained, it will increase the store's invalid marketing costs. At the same time, this setting only targets point rewards (which can be recovered), while coupon rewards are not supported for recovery because they may have been used or have time sensitivity, balancing fairness and operability.

10. Rule Status

  • Active:
    • The referral function runs normally, and users can participate in referral activities and obtain rewards.
  • Disabled:
    • The referral function is unavailable, and users cannot participate in referral activities.

11. Custom Referral Link Landing Page

  • Function Description: Set the target page that new users visit via the referral link.
  • Configuration Requirements: The URL must be a valid page address of the store.
  • Default Rule: If left blank, the store's homepage will be automatically used as the landing page.
  • Core Feature: Each user's invitation code (ref) is unique and used to bind the referral relationship. When a new user visits, the system automatically records the referrer's (A) information.

Frontend Display Positions

After configuration and activation, consumers can view the referral rules and invitation links in the following positions:

  • Membership Points Panel
  • Loyalty Landing Page

💡 Notes

  • Each tier can be bound to only 1 referral rule, and active tier-specific rules take precedence over global rules.
  • The invitee (B) must register via the referral link; otherwise, the referral relationship cannot be bound, and the referrer (A) cannot obtain rewards.
  • Only one coupon reward can be created, and relevant parameters need to be configured in advance in the corresponding discount type.
  • The daily invitation registration limit only restricts registration rewards and does not affect the triggering of order rewards.
  • Return handling only targets point rewards; once coupon rewards are issued, they cannot be recovered.
  • The global referral rule is disabled by default and needs to be manually activated to take effect for tiers without configured exclusive rules.
